One Door Closes and another Opens . . .

Yesterday July 7th, 2011 Ben and I worked our last shift at the Boise, Idaho Temple. The temple will close July 9th for remodeling. Our regular shift is Tuesday morning and we did work our regular shift and substituted for Connie and Paul Giauque yesterday mid shift. Both shifts were very good but yesterday was especially good. I was reading in the D &C under mission and was referred to D&C 31:3, “Lift up your heart and rejoice, for the hour of your mission is come: and your tongue shall be loosed, and you shall declare glad tidings of great joy unto this generation” In verse 2 it talks about the blessings of serving a mission, “–I will bless you and your family, yea your little ones; and the day cometh that they will believe and know the truth and be one with you in my church.” We had several special experiences in the temple that day and were sad when we left. It was hard to see the doors to the temple close.

When we got home our mission call was here. We had arranged to video, and conference call with all the kids so we could open it together as a family.

We received a call to labor in the United Kingdom in the Solihull England Satellite Area Welfare Office as welfare service specialists. This is in the England Birmingham Mission. We are to report to the Provo MTC November 7th, 2011. We could not be more excited. We would love to go to the United Kingdom.  We don’t know much more about the mission but we will spend the next few months learning. We feel so very blessed and humble.

We have already received a call from SLC this morning from Elder Adams who coordinates all the Welfare missions of the church giving us our assignments to work on, with more to come. Our primary assignment will be to work with the area office out of Frankfurt, Germany under the supervisor for welfare over all of Europe. We may be anywhere in the UK training and doing what ever is needed with welfare with an emphasis on employment. Right now it looks like we will start training at the LDS Boise Employment Office,  in employment and addiction recovery.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!! We are so proud of you!!! I read as much as I could while still remaining awake… I still haven’t figured out where you’re going… can you shed some light on that???

When you role play… imagine you’re trying to influence a reprobate to go to the temple… and you’re a bishopric member and the reprobate is a bearded fishing tackle travelling salesman… oh, wait a minute… you’ve already been there. Oh well, try and imagine another far fetched story that no one would possibly believe.

Kenna and her husband birthed a baby girl a week ago yesterday (Sunday, Nov. 13th). Mother; and baby; and grandmother are doing great. Grampa’s a wreck… but he was that way prior to the baby being borned. Such is life.

We love you guys and are looking forward to some great experiences. Keep us “POSTED” (pun intended) often.
